Picture story : Gurdeep Singh - The Journey of an International Student
Here in the city of Calgary, among the busy SAIT student community, is a person whose life story defines the balance of study and work, and never giving up on your targets. Gurdeep Singh, a 22-year-old Indian international student who has smoothly handled the difficulties of studying abroad, adapting into a foreign culture, and rising to difficult circumstances. In addition to highlighting the difficulties encountered by students studying abroad, Gurdeep's story stands as an example to the adaptation of the spirit of humanity.
Q1. can you share what motivated you to study in Canada?
I'm always impressed by the quality of education and multicultural that Canada provides. Back in India, I heard countless success stories about students finding their way in Canada, which inspired me to continue my higher studies there.
Q2. What were some of the major difficulties you experienced when you arrived in Canada?
In the beginning, the biggest problem was the feeling of loneliness. Leaving my family and moving to a foreign country was scary. Then there were the educational pressures, which were very different from back home.
Q3. How did you managed to overcome those obstacles?
It took some time, but I understood the value of talking to others and creating support groups. Balancing part-time work and academics was difficult, but it helped me patience and self-control.
Q4. Can you tell us about an experience from the time you were in Canada?
One of the most unique memories I had was during my first Canadian winter. I saw snow for the first time, and it was amazing. I was struggling to go home from university, and somebody offered to transport me there. That small act of kindness helped me feel welcome and less lonely.
Q5. Finally, what advice do you have for international student looking to enroll in Canada?
Prepare for an up-and-down journey. Accept difficulties as opportunities to progress. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it, and constantly search for the networks and resources available to you. Remember that studying abroad is about more than simply getting an education.
